The Minister for Communications and Digitalization, Mrs.
Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has said that Ghana has made significant strides in cybersecurity development since 2017 when the President of the Republic mandated the Ministry of Communications to oversee Ghana's cybersecurity development and a National Cybersecurity Advisor was appointed to lead the process.According to her, the launch of the Cybersecurity Industry Forum, in accordance with Section 81(1) of the Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038) marks another significant milestone in this journey towards a resilient digital future.Mrs.
Ursula Owusu-Ekuful in an interview with the media emphasized that in responds to the constantly evolving threat landscape associated with our adoption of digital platforms and services as the driver for the economic development, the government of Ghana has implemented several key interventions and notable among them are the launch of the Safer Digital Ghana campaign, the passage of the Cybersecurity Act, the ratification of conventions such as the Budapest and Malabo Conventions, launch of the revised National Cybersecurity Policy and Strategy among others.She added that Ghana's efforts have been recognized on the global stage, from a score of 32.6% in 2017 to 99.27% in the latest edition of the Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI) released by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) last month.She made this known during the launch of the Cybersecurity Industry Forum and Inauguration of Independent Assessors.The Director General of the Cyber Security Authority (CSA), Dr.
Albert Antwi-Boasiako emphasized that Cybersecurity is not entirely a government initiative but a shared responsibility; hence the forum will support Ghana's cybersecurity development and serve as the starting point of a long-term partnership that will drive policy, standards, innovations and technological advancements.The High Commissioner of Rwanda to Ghana, Her Excellency Rosemary Mbabazi commended the Ministry of Communications and Digitalization and the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) for taking such an initiative and calling for collaboration among industry players to help achieve their goals.
