It is clear that the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) was faced with a difficult situation very early in his tenure and made a number of mistakes and misjudgments, especially with his conclusion that former President John Dramani Mahama wasn't a beneficiary of the bribery money in the airbus scandal, Convener of the Fixing the Country Movement, Ernest Owusu-Bempah has said. Owusu-Bempah says this is a crucial case that cuts to the willingness and ability of the OSP to investigate and prosecute serious alleged criminality. The OSP at a press briefing on Thursday, August 8 said Mahama was identified as Government Official One by the UK and US courts during their investigations.
"The OSP confirms the identity of the following individuals. The individual described as Government Official 1 by the UK court and Individual one by the US court is John Dramani Mahama. He is a citizen of Ghana and was the Vice-president of Ghana from 7 January 2009 to 24 July 2012," the OSP stated.
