Ahead of Vice President and New Patriotic Party's presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia's visit to Ho on Tuesday, some Assembly Members of the Ho Municipal Assembly are raising concerns over the ongoing construction of a fence wall around the newly built Assembly office complex which started Sunday night.Dr Bawumia who is on a five-day tour of the Volta Region, is scheduled to commission the new office complex when he visits Ho later Tuesday afternoon. But the aggrieved Assembly members led by the Presiding Member, Mawunyo Agbe, say the project is one of nine projects that the General Assembly at its last sitting disapproved and expunged from the Assembly's mid-year budget. They are accusing the Municipal Chief Executive and the NPP's parliamentary candidate for Ho Central, Divine Komla Bosson of engaging in an illegality and a mess to boost his campaign. The Presiding Member, Mawunyo Agbe told the media at a press briefing on Monday that, "In this budget (mid-year budget) we approved budgets that we are all aware of but at the moment, as we speak, there is a project that is ongoing at the Assembly called fencing of the new Assembly complex, there is nowhere in this budget that it was stated that they should fence the Assembly building.""All these projects ongoing, we have about nine, that were expunged from the mid-year budget," he added. The group is questioning why the Municipal Chief Executive would proceed with the project despite the disapproval of the General Assembly and further questioned the source of funding for the project. The aggrieved Assembly members are further concerned about the lack of transparency and accountability for certain projects being undertaken by the Assembly and called on the public to pay critical attention and support them to ensure value for money and accountability.Despite the concerns raised, the Assembly led by the Municipal Chief Executive are proceeding with preparations to receive Dr Bawumia for the commissioning.By Faisel Abdul-Iddrisu
