Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has indefinitely adjourned parliamentary proceedings following intense disagreements between MPs of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Tuesday, October 22, 2024.
The session was marked by heated debates over which caucus holds the Majority in the House.
Bagbin's decision to adjourn came after receiving a communication from the Supreme Court instructing him to stay his earlier ruling that declared four parliamentary seats vacant. However, the Speaker provided little detail on the Court's directive, leaving MPs and observers with unanswered questions about its implications.
The vacant seats, which include two from the NPP, one from the NDC, and one independent, have been the subject of a legal dispute ever since Bagbin's ruling on October 17.
