A member of the communications team of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Awal Mohammed has said that it will not be a prudent decision to declare a state of emergency two months into an election to tackle the illegal small-scale mining menace (Galamsey).
Awal Mohammed says no sane government anywhere in the world would take such a decision. "No sane government anywhere in the world will declare a state of emergency two months to an election and send soldiers to the forest to shoot to kill," he said on the Big Issue on TV3 on Wednesday, October 9.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been called upon to declare a state of emergency to address galamsey issues.
For instance, a Vice President of INANI Africa, Mr Kofi Bentil expressed surprise that the President had not declared a state of emergency.
