Ghanaian actress Oheneyere Mercy Asiedu Agyemang Duah has opened up on why she decided to venture into highlife music in Ghana.
In an interview on Onua FM's mid-morning show, Adwuma Adwuma, she explained that the limited participation of women in the highlife genre is the reason she begun her highlife music career.
According to her, Akosua Agyapong is currently the only female highlife artiste, stressing that the current crop of female artistes have no interest in the genre. "In Ghana currently, female highlife musicians are not many so I decided to venture into that genre [highlife] to try and uplift and sustain the female highlife musicians. "Since the passing of Awurama Badu, to me the only female highlife singer we have now is Akosua Agyapong. "Our current female artistes are not into that genre.
They perceive it to be for the elderly…it's the hip-hop and others that they have interest in so that is my reason to do highlife music," she told Felicia Osei on October 8.
