The Government of Ghana has announced that it has intensified its fight against illegal mining in rivers and forest reserves following an outcry by Ghanaians.

As a result, Operation Halt, led by the military, has been intensified to rid the river bodies of all forms of mining activities.

The government has also issued a red alert on mining in forest reserves across the country.

The government, in its statement, said it is collaborating with small-scale miners in this fight to ensure mining in water bodies and forest reserves becomes a thing of the past.
