The leader of the All People's Congress (APC), Dr. , has called on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to take drastic actions against the illegal mining activities known as the galamsey menace in the country.
According to him, the Asantehene's influence in the nation surpasses that of the President of Ghana, , in terms of how he is held in high esteem.
Ayariga asserted that if the government is reluctant to take punitive measures to end the illegal mining activities, Otumfuo should take it upon himself to address the issue before it escalates, considering the destruction of water bodies. "Asantehene is more powerful than Akufo-Addo, he must stop galamsey," Ayariga said, as shared by Oyerepa TV/FM on X on October 8, 2024.
Meanwhile, the government announced that it would deploy military personnel to various mining sites to fight the menace.
