Vice President of INANI Africa, Mr Kofi Bentil has expressed surprise that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has not declared a state of emergency over the illegal small-scale mining (Galamsey) menace.

In the view of Kofi Bentil, the declaration of a state of emergency is long overdue.

Speaking on the Agenda show with Beatrice Adu on Monday, October 7, the private legal practitioner noted that President Akufo-Addo said "all the right things" about how he was going to fight galamsey but ended up "doing all the wrong things." "I am suprised that he has not declared a state of emergency, because we are in a state of emergency," he stressed.

Members of Organised Labour have resolved to proceed with the nationwide strike on October 10 despite being urged by President Akufo-Addo to give him more time to address their concerns during a meeting on October 4.
