The Rastafari Council of Ghana has urged the government to address the ongoing degradation of Ghana's environment, waterbodies, and agricultural areas as a result of illicit mining operations.

The Council emphasised the necessity for the government to take urgent action against illicit mining practices known as galamsey.

They stated that the majority of Ghanaians have demanded rapid action, and that the government is responsible for acting.

President of the Council, Ahuma Ocansey 'Bosco', in a statement said "As a community committed to the principles of natural living and environmental protection, we have watched with dismay the severe impact has had on our ecosystem, especially on the health of our rivers, forests, and farmlands.
