President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed his unwavering belief in the democratic aspirations of West Africans.
Despite the region facing numerous challenges, including coups and terrorist insurgencies, the President emphasised that the desire for democracy remains strong among the populace. "I am confident that the majority of people in West Africa continue to have great faith," President Akufo-Addo stated in an interview on France24 on Friday.
Adding "The desire of our people to live within democratic culture is incontestable." Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo expressed strong condemnation of the treatment of former Niger President Mohammed Bazoum.
Bazoum, a democratically elected leader, was ousted from power in a coup on July 26, 2023, and has since been detained by the military junta.
