Profile Summary
Detail-oriented X-Ray operator with solid knowledge of radiographic equipment, radiation safety, and patient care. Skilled at positioning patients, operating digital/CR X-ray machines, and producing high-quality diagnostic images while following ALARA radiation protection principles. Calm under pressure, great with patients, and strict about safety + documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Imaging: Position patients correctly and operate X-ray equipment to capture chest, bone, dental, abdominal, and other diagnostic images as ordered by physicians.
  • Radiation Safety: Apply ALARA principles. Use lead aprons, thyroid collars, collimation, and exposure settings to minimize dose to patients + staff.
  • Equipment Operation: Set up, calibrate, and troubleshoot digital X-ray, CR/DR systems, and PACS. Perform basic QC checks daily.
  • Patient Care: Explain procedures to patients, answer questions, and ensure comfort especially for children, elderly, or trauma cases.
  • Image Quality: Review images for positioning, exposure, and artifacts. Retake when needed to meet diagnostic standards.
  • Records & Compliance: Label, upload, and archive images in hospital/RIS system. Maintain exposure logs and patient confidentiality per HIPAA/data protection laws.
  • Infection Control: Sterilize equipment, maintain clean rooms, and follow standard precautions between patients.
  • Team Support: Work with radiologists, doctors, and nurses to prioritize urgent cases like ER trauma.

Requirements

Required Skills or Experience

Qualifications

  • Education: Certificate Technology, or Medical Imaging from accredited school
  • License/Registration: Registered with national radiation protection board / medical council. License required in most countries.
  • Experience: 1-3 years operating X-ray machines. Fresh grads with clinical internship considered.
  • Other: Basic life support/CPR cert is a plus. Shift work + on-call for emergencies.

Skills

  • Technical: Operation of X-ray generators, digital panels, CR readers, PACS/RIS software
  • Anatomy & Positioning: Knowledge of human anatomy, radiographic positioning, and pathology basics
  • Safety: Radiation protection, exposure calculation, emergency procedures
  • Patient Skills: Clear communication, empathy, ability to handle anxious/claustrophobic patients
  • Attention to Detail: Spotting motion artifacts, correct labeling, accurate patient ID

KPIs / Success Metrics

  • Image retake rate <5%
  • Patient throughput per shift
  • Zero radiation safety incidents
  • Equipment uptime + QC compliance
  • Patient satisfaction scores
  • Work in a clinic. Standing for long periods, lifting patients, exposure to radiation risk if safety protocols aren’t followed.
