Job Description

BRAC Ghana Savings and Loans Ltd (BGSL) is a socially responsible for-profit organization, engaging people, especially women in sustainable economic and income generating activities in Ghana. Our mission is to provide a range of financial services responsibly to people at the bottom of the pyramid. BGSL is seeking applications from competent, dynamic and self-motivated individuals to fill the following position:

Purpose of the Role

The Credit Officer (SEP) will assess new and existing loan applications, evaluate the financial condition and repayment capacity of prospective clients, and determine the risks associated with loan transactions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Confirm daily attendance, staff movement, and client business visits.
  • Identify and assess potential entrepreneurs through visits to their businesses and residences.
  • Verify required documents such as trading licenses, land agreements, tenancy agreements, spouse consent forms, nominee details, and guarantor information.
  • Prepare and complete loan disbursement documentation.
  • Collect all necessary documents from clients for loan processing.
  • Ensure timely repayment of monthly loan installments through mobile money or bank payments.
  • Prepare reports, target plans, and progress reports.
  • Conduct post-disbursement visits to borrowers.
  • Carry out frequent field visits to monitor loan utilization and quality of disbursement.
  • Liaise with Area Managers and lawyers regarding legal documentation.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly loan disbursement requisitions.
  • Ensure quality disbursement and effective overdue loan recovery.
  • Report borrower or dependent deaths promptly to insurance providers.
  • Follow up on written-off loans and ensure recovered funds are deposited appropriately.
  • Adhere to the Microfinance Code of Conduct and treat clients respectfully.
  • Provide quality customer service at both field and branch levels.
  • Listen to client complaints and take appropriate action.

Safeguarding Responsibilities

  • Promote and implement safeguarding practices across all programme activities.
  • Serve as a resource person on safeguarding matters.
  • Ensure team members receive safeguarding training and support.
  • Follow safeguarding reporting procedures and encourage compliance by others.

Experience Required

  • Experience in cash and bank transactions.
  • Ability to prepare cash requisitions, cash certificates, and bank reconciliation statements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
  • At least one year of experience in a microfinance or financial institution.

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Good report writing and English language skills.

Educational Qualification

  • Minimum qualification: WASSCE or HND.
  • A bachelor’s degree or higher qualification is an added advantage.
