Here is why ‘dumsor’ will not affect Limited Voter Registration – Jean Mensa details

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, has outlined strategies to counteract the impact of power outages (dumsor) on the Limited Voter Registration exercise.

She noted that generators will be on standby at various district offices to be utilized during any power interruptions throughout the registration process.

Additionally, the EC chairperson mentioned the possibility of an offline mode for voter registration, where details will be stored on a pen drive for processing once power is restored.

What we’ve done is to have all our district offices rent generators so that in the event where there’s dumsor, that can kick in.

“However, should there be the unexpected, we would switch on to the offline, and by offline it means the voters will be registered and their details will be put on a pen drive and that will be copied in our offices when the light returns, so the registration will not be disrupted,” she said.

The registration exercise is set to occur at all 258 district offices of the commission and an additional 785 centers to facilitate access for those who live far from district offices.

Furthermore, 25 public universities will serve as registration locations.
