Vodafone Ghana launches domestic violence policy to help employees

Vodafone Ghana has launched a policy that gives employees who are affected by domestic violence-related cases the opportunity to deal with them.

This was revealed by the Human Resource Director of Vodafone Ghana, Ms Ashiokai Akrong at a mentorship programme to empower girls from schools across Accra organized by Vodafone Ghana ladies.

She said women were most usually disproportionately affected in domestic violence issues and that the policy will help both sexes to take off up to 10 days leave to deal with domestic violence-related cases affecting them.

The programme was in commemoration of the International Women’ Day which was celebrated on March 8.

The programme was aimed at encouraging young girls to pursue their career goals.

The girls were taken through a range of topics, including setting up career goals, discovering their talents, building their self-confidence, building strategic friendships and network, paying attention to their personal hygiene and also their religious lives.

Ms Ashiokai Akrong advised the girls to work hard in their fields of study especially, Science, Technology, English and Mathematics to achieve their set goals.

She said Vodafone Ghana has a role to play in making sure that the future of young girls in Ghana was shaped, adding, “Vodafone dedicated time to share with the girls some expectations and lessons in life that would guide and empower them to achieve their dreams.”

She urged the young girls to pay much attention to their academic performance and view higher education as necessary for their development in future.

The Human Resource Director said, Vodafone gives sponsorship to female engineering students of various universities and gives them the opportunity to internship, National Service personnel are permanently recruited into the Vodafone family.

She announced that Vodafone has 24hour hotline service which allows their employees to call and get the help that they need.
