Sewage, blocked drains worsen Abuja flooding — FG
By Folarin Kehinde The Federal Ministry of Environment has blamed blocked manholes and underground drainage channels for worsening the flash flood that occurred at Blantyre Crescent, Adetokunbo Ademola, Wuse II, Abuja, on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
The ministry said the Blantyre Crescent incident was an indication of a wider drainage infrastructure maintenance problem in the Federal Capital City.
It further recommended the creation of a digital register of manholes, underground drainage channels, flood-prone locations and maintenance records to improve the management of the city’s drainage infrastructure.
