SERAP trains Benue communities on security tracking, accountability

By GhanaSummary NewsroomNigeria

Arigbadu said the training, organised under SERAP’s People-Centered Public Safety project, was designed to strengthen community members’ capacity to identify security threats, engage security agencies and use lawful channels to demand accountability.

During the workshop, the Lead, Legal, Lawyers Alert, Solumtochukwu Ozobulu, spoke to participants on community safety and security rights, while Assistant Team Lead, Legal, SERAP, Oluwakemi Agunbiade, trained them on the use of the Freedom of Information, FOI, Act, to obtain information from public institutions.

Arigbadu also urged citizens to pay closer attention to government expenditure on security, saying residents had the right to seek explanations when insecurity persisted despite public spending.
