By GhanaSummary NewsroomNigeria

By Gift ChapiOdekina, Abuja ABUJA — The House of Representatives Committee on the South-South Development Commission has commenced an investigation into the prolonged gas leak in Bille Community, Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State, expressing concern over the environmental and humanitarian impact of the incident nearly a year after it was first reported.

In response, the NUPRC said although no operator had been found responsible for the incident, the industry had provided relief materials to the community as part of its corporate social responsibility, while a medical outreach programme would begin within two weeks.

According to the official, the gas seepage developed gradually before it was reported by members of the community.
