The arrest of a senior police officer over an alleged kidnapping and extortion syndicate has once again thrust the spotlight on accountability within the National Police Service, raising fresh questions about the infiltration of criminal networks by officers entrusted with enforcing the law.

Inspector Kelvin Mwangi, the Deputy Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Drive-Inn Police Station, was arrested on Thursday night after detectives linked him to the alleged abduction of a husband and wife in Githurai, where the victims were reportedly held captive and forced to raise Sh1 million in ransom.
