On Thursday, Senate Speaker Amason Kingi formally announced Mr Sifuna's removal as Deputy Minority Whip after receiving communication from Senate Minority Leader Stewart Madzayo that Migori Senator Eddy Oketch had been elected to replace him.

Only months ago, Mr Sifuna simultaneously served as ODM Secretary-General and Senate Deputy Minority Whip, making him one of the party's most powerful figures both inside and outside Parliament.
