After failing to clinch the 2026 Cecafa Club Championships title following a 2-1 loss to Rwanda’s Rayon Sports on Friday evening, Gor Mahia have now shifted focus to fine-tuning the team and building cohesion in the squad ahead of their daunting CAF Champions League campaign, and defence of their Kenyan league title.

When he came under attack following Gor’s 1-0 loss to Uganda’s Vipers SC in their second group match of the tournament, during which he rested several first-team players, coach Charles Akonnor defended the decision, saying the matches provide the best platform to test all the players in his big squad.

The 22-time Kenyan champions face a stern test in the CAF Champions League after being drawn against Egypt’s Pyramids FC in the first preliminary round of the competition starting next month.
