Oborevwori: Esiovwa-Thompson’s Commonwealth gold shows Deltans’ potential
By Egufe Yafugborhi ASABA — Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has described the Commonwealth Fencing Championships gold medal won by 16-year-old Oghenegaren Esiovwa-Thompson as a demonstration of the enormous potential of young Deltans.
Esiovwa-Thompson, an indigene of Osubi in Okpe Local Government Area of the state, made history by winning Nigeria’s first-ever gold medal in the men’s Under-23 epee event at the championship in Lagos.
He subsequently defeated Asian champion Lokesh Verma of India 15-5 to claim the gold medal.
