NSFAS says student accommodation spend to exceed R18bln this year

By GhanaSummary NewsroomSouth Africa

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) says based on their system’s current rates and caps, it projects that more than R18 billion will be spent on accommodation, by the end of the year.

WATCH | Student Representative Councils from 10 universities have called for the R52,000 annual NSFAS accommodation cap to be scrapped, arguing that the funding shortfall is pushing poor and working-class students into debt and jeopardising their studies.

In the past three years, NSFAS has reported a growth of almost R2 billion in student funding accommodation, year on year.
