Nigeria assumes ATU chairmanship as Africa adopts Abuja digital declaration

…Zambia’s Kezias Nwale elected secretary-general By Progress Godfrey ABUJA – Nigeria has assumed the chairmanship of the African Telecommunications Union (ATU) Conference of Plenipotentiaries as African ministers adopted the Abuja Ministerial Declaration to accelerate meaningful connectivity, digital inclusion and investment in digital infrastructure across the continent.” Mwale said he would work closely with governments, regulators, policymakers, the private sector, academia, civil society, development partners and other stakeholders to build a stronger and more responsive African Telecommunications Union capable of advancing the continent’s digital transformation.

This followed the close of the 7th Ordinary Session of the African Telecommunications Union (ATU) Conference of Plenipotentiaries (CPL-26), where member states transferred the chairmanship from Algeria to Nigeria, with Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, assuming the position on behalf of the country.
