Nigeria @66: NHRC, RULAAC, CISLAC insist reforms must translate into better lives, rights

By GhanaSummary NewsroomNigeria

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), the Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC) and the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) have maintained that Nigeria’s economic reforms must translate into better living conditions, stronger protection of rights and greater security for citizens.“National security must go hand in hand with the protection of fundamental rights,” Mr Ojukwu stated and also called for stronger adherence to the rule of law, an independent and effective justice system and meaningful access to justice, particularly for poor and vulnerable citizens.

The NHRC therefore called on governments at all levels to strengthen social protection, expand access to basic services and ensure that economic policies comply with Nigeria’s constitutional and international human-rights obligations.
