Government’s position Lagos State government has consistently defended the demolition exercises, maintaining that structures beneath or dangerously close to high-voltage transmission lines violate planning regulations and pose serious risks to public safety.

Although federal and state authorities have consistently warned that living or carrying out business beneath high-voltage electricity transmission lines poses serious safety risks, fresh commercial developments continue to emerge within some of the same corridors after demolition exercises with millions of people operating there.

The company said that while it is responsible for identifying, managing, monitoring and safeguarding transmission corridors, effective protection requires collaboration among state planning authorities, local governments, land administration agencies, development control authorities, security agencies, host communities and other stakeholders.
