LAWMA unveils reforms to end Lagos waste backlog

Lagos, July 19, 2026 (NAN) The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) says it is implementing sweeping infrastructure, regulatory and operational reforms to end persistent waste backlog and improve environmental sanitation across the state.

Gbadegesin identified poor public compliance with waste management regulations as another major obstacle confronting effective sanitation in Lagos.

According to him, the state is replacing landfills with Transfer Loading Stations, Material Recovery Facilities and waste-to-energy plants.
