Commends recruitment of 28,000 personnel, says move will improve response to security threats By Henry Umoru ABUJA — Former Senate President and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defence, Senator Ahmad Lawan (APC, Yobe North), has commended President Bola Tinubu for expanding the Nigerian Army to 12 divisions and approving the recruitment of 28,000 young Nigerians into the military.

He said the creation of additional divisions would reduce response time to security challenges, particularly in ungoverned spaces, adding that a stronger military structure would help accelerate efforts to end insurgency and other security threats.

Lawan, in a statement he personally signed on Wednesday, described the decision as a strategic move that would strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture and enhance the military’s capacity to respond to emerging threats.
