Karim Khan: Kenya’s shadow in ICC prosecutor’s exit World 16 min ago

Member states of the International Criminal Court (ICC) on Friday voted to remove Karim Khan as the court’s chief prosecutor after disciplinary proceedings linked to sexual misconduct allegations, ending the tenure of a British lawyer whose career has long intersected with Kenya’s politics and justice system.

Mr Khan’s office later said he had opted to recuse himself from all Kenya-related cases before the ICC under Article 42(7) of the Rome Statute, and that the action was to “protect against any conflict of interest that may be perceived to arise from his former representation of ICC suspects or accused persons”.

Former Justice minister Martha Karua, then an Azimio principal, said Mr Khan’s hosting in Kenya by the university and its founder, whom she described as a friend of Mr Ruto, was “not only suspect but also a blot on the credibility of ICC”.
