Kenya is bracing for a potentially disruptive October-November-December rainfall season, with the Kenya Meteorological Service Authority (KMSA) warning that the strengthening El Niño conditions could bring above-average rains to much of the country.

The combination of a strong El Niño and a potentially positive Indian Ocean Dipole could increase rainfall during the season.“We don't want El Niño rains to catch us flat-footed,” The government says teams led by the National Disaster Operations Centre and the Ministry of Interior are already moving around the country to identify and map safe areas where people can be relocated if flooding becomes severe.
