DRC: Africa CDC sounds alarm as Congo Ebola outbreak turns deadliest yet

By GhanaSummary NewsroomPan-Africa

Democratic Republic Of Congo The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has warned that the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is spiralling out of control, with more than 1,700 deaths recorded in just 14 weeks and contact tracing failing to contain the virus.

Africa CDC Director-General Jean Kaseya said the response was falling short, warning that contact tracing was no longer effectively containing the outbreak.

Conflict complicates response Health officials say the outbreak is caused by the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola, for which there are no approved vaccines or treatments.
