In this context, the AU’s Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security, along with other stakeholders, facilitated the first ever transitional justice national consultative conference in South Sudan, which led to the drafting and enactment of legislation for the CTRH and CRA, signed into law by President Salva Kiir Mayardit in November 2024.
The AU’s support to South Sudan’s transitional justice efforts is strategically anchored on the 2018 Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS).
The international community must intensify its support, both technically and financially, to advance South Sudan’s transitional justice and peace agenda.
