Political Analyst slams Akufo-Addo over his ‘I don’t want to be succeeded by the man I defeated’ comments

Jonathan Asante Otchere, has strongly criticised President Nana Akufo-Addo for saying that he does not want to be succeeded by the NDC’s candidate, John Dramani Mahama, whom he defeated twice.

Dr.

Mahama also defeated President Akufo-Addo in 2012 but during the 2016 electioneering campaign, the former President did not pass such comments.

Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo, while addressing supporters at a mini-rally in Doboro in the Greater Accra region following a visit to the premises of Blue Skies Limited, reiterated that he has no confidence in Mr.

Mahama to develop the country.

“I can’t hand over to someone I defeated twice and who is not happy with everything I do; he will destroy the work that I have done.

“Vote for Dr.

Asante Otchere spoke to Beatrice Adu on 3FM’s news analysis programme Hot Edition on Tuesday, May 7, 2024.

“It is quite unfortunate that pronouncements as base as some of these are coming from people who are supposed to know better.

I think that an exiting president who has nothing to lose should think of leaving a legacy of smooth transfer of power.

“It is very important.

So it doesn’t matter who wins but the point is that although your favourite son is equally contesting, if you have nothing to hide, I think you shouldn’t be worried about who wins the elections.”

“There is an inherent illogicality in his pronouncement that this is somebody he’s defeated; he doesn’t think that he should be the one he should hand over to, I’m telling the President that there is an inherent illogicality in his presentation,” he emphasised.

Furthermore, the political analyst further maintained that President AKufo-Addo poses a significant challenge to the Bawumia campaign if he continues on this trajectory.

“Again, I think that the President is a major problem for Dr.

Bawumia…by that stretch of imagination, I feel that you are rather making Bawumia not to be his own man.”
