Gyan concerned about Ghana squad's recent form for AFCON qualifier

Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has expressed dissatisfaction over the current form of the 24-man squad named by Chris Hughton to face Madagascar in the (AFCON) qualifier.

The core of the team which featured in the 2022 World Cup, as well as the recent AFCON qualifiers against Angola, were maintained in the latest squad with the return of Alidu Seidu and Kwasi Okyere Wriedt as well as the introduction of Nordjaelland youngster Ernest Nuamah.

However, Gyan feels most of the players saw a form drop in the latter stages of the season which could take a toll on their performance against Madagascar.

“In the latter stages of the leagues, you saw players form dropping which is a bit of a worry,” he told Joy FM.

“When you come to the national team, it’s a different thing altogether.

I’m sure they have played for quite a long time and they know how to do everything together.

“Everything is okay but I am a bit worried about this recent form that our players are having.”

The team will pitch camp in the coming days and make a trip to Antananarivo to seek a win that could see them seal their place in the next AFCON tournament to be hosted by Ivory Coast.
