Traditional leaders express concerns about ritual murder at Sefwi Bekwai | 3NEWS.com

A press release issued and signed by the Krontihene and Acting President, Sefwi Bekwai Traditional Council; Chief of Sefwi Humjibre, Nana Kwadwo Twum II,  said on Sunday August 7, 2022 that “it is with much pain, disgrace, and humiliation that I comment about the barbaric murder of the late Martha Tetteh, a resident of Kumasi allegedly for ritual purposes by some irresponsible, shameless, and uncivilized individuals, which incident, unfortunately, took place on this our land on the later part of June 2022, as per the report from the Ghana Police Service, Sefwi Bekwai District, issued on 22nd July 2022.

“It is an undeniable fact that the land of Sefwi Bekwai has suffered a great deal of humiliation for the past four decades or more with the unfortunate stigmatization of ‘RITUAL MURDER’.

the famous ‘KOFI KYINTO RITUAL MURDER’, the land became safe for all as far as ritual murders were concerned until that one which happened at Baakokrom on the land of Sefwi Bekwai in 2009.

It is with much pain, disgrace, and humiliation that I comment about the barbaric murder of the late MARTHA TETTEH, a resident of Kumasi allegedly for ritual purposes by some irresponsible, shameless, and uncivilized individuals, which incident, unfortunately, took place on this our land on the later part of June 2022, as per the report from the Ghana Police Service, Sefwi Bekwai District, issued on 22nd July 2022.

This is due to the sharp divisions that have been created within the Sefwi Bekwai Traditional Area, thanks to the second installation of another Omanhene of the land after Nananom led by myself as the Krontihene of the traditional Area had earlier installed one in line with our custom and tradition.

Today, if we are to judge the matter objectively, it is evidently clear that it is not our installation not our resolve to seek justice for the wrongs done to the stool and the land that has brought Sefwi Bekwai to its knees as being experienced now; rather, it is the actions and inactions of those who out of ignorance, disregard and disrespect to our stool, thought they knew everything and had all the powers one could think of in Ghana, politically, administratively and traditionally behind them, and therefore could do just anything and use any means to install their favourite as Omanhene.
