Good education in Ghana can cost an arm and a leg. When you factor in the high school fees demanded by most of the higher learning institutions with the current harsh economic conditions, it is next to impossible for most learners with potential to make it through. But there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel since the Government introduced the Getfund scholarship application.
It aims at alleviating the burden of education on Ghanaians especially in the education sector.
The is a public trust set up by an Act of Parliament 18 years ago. The main aim for the Getfund Ghana scholarship application gives people an opportunity to receive funding to supplement the Government’s effort in the improvement of the education sector through the provision of educational infrastructure and facilities. The project targets all the sectors in the public related with offering education services from the pre-tertiary to the tertiary level.
Over the years, the program has increased its functions to cater for funding the procurement of educational equipment and the promotion of staff development and research especially in the tertiary level. It also increased its funding to agencies and institutions which fall under the Ministry of Education oversight and responsibility. It is committed to the faithful and commitment on serving its mandate to Ghanaians.
The scholarship program is meant for successful learners who are academically endowed but from economically disabled backgrounds with interests in pursuing the different fields of study. The scholarship is not limited to the field of study of the learner. Below we have listed the requirements and procedures of the Getfund scholarship application 2018.Getfund scholarship application categories
There are basically two forms of Getfund scholarships that cater for different categories of learners in Ghana.1. Hardship scholarship - Getfund scholarship application
This kind of scholarship is awarded to scholars facing problems of financing their own education due to hard economic conditions and other related issues. They include the likes of refugees, learners in drought-stricken areas, workers still pursuing education in the public sector and those in poverty areas. The aim of the scholarship is to mediate and at least offer opportunities so that they can compete fairly with other learners from different parts of the country.Requirements
For the Getfund scholarship application form under this category, applicants are required to have an official payslip or payroll of their parents or guardians or the applicant’s, in case they finance their own education. They are also to attach recent school receipts or bills of their siblings who are currently enrolled in school. Tax return receipts including IRS, VAT or tabletop hawking receipts are also mandatory.
Applicants must also attach birth certificates of their siblings and the death certificate of the parent or the guarding or alternatively produce a burial permit. In case the parents or guardians are retired, applicants must provide pension letter. Other necessary documents include; money transfer receipts, National Health Insurance receipts, SSNIT contribution statements and bank statements.2. Merit based scholarship - Getfund scholarship application
This are offered to learners who are academically endowed and have passed their respective examinations and are interested in pursuing a career at the higher education level. An advantage of the Getfund scholarship is that it is universal and can be redeemed in many of the international universities recognized around the world and not only Ghanaian learning institutions. The scholarship comprises of one round trip flight from and to Ghana, tuition fees, learning materials, monthly living expenses and health insurance.
The scholarship is also not limited to the field of study as learners can choose any course of their liking. But learners must first coordinate with the departments in the learning institution to check whether their credentials fit in the field of study applied. Learners are to accompany the application form with records regarding achievements tests, academic awards, honors, substantive assessments by teachers and letters of recommendation.
Getfund Scholarship College Scholarships
For the undergraduates, applicants must be Level 100 students. They must also reside in the poverty-stricken parts of the country Applicants will require to present evidence of their residential areas in form of addresses. They must also have attended a less endowed school before sitting their WASSCE. Room is also created for those who attended school under a scholarship program that ended immediately they graduated.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate the source of income for their family. They must be able to prove their family’s incapability to meet the educational-related expenses. Applicants are required to attach their parent’s pay slips in the last three months. Applicants will have a face-to face interview where they will be tested on their determination and ambition to achieve once the scholarship is granted.
During the interview, the applicant’s past experiences, achievements both academic and personal, involvement in the activities of the community and leadership qualities will be reviewed. All the supporting documents attached by the applicant will be under scrutiny. This includes high school transcripts and university acceptance letter Applicants are forewarned against handing over false documents as it will be taken for a criminal offense and the law shall take its course.
stipulate that all applicants must have obtained an aggregate of 11 or better at the WASSCE. Applicants with a Level 200 who are continuing students with CGPA of 3.5 or a female Level 300 or above continuing student with CGPA of 3.7 can apply. Applicants must also confirm that they are not currently receiving support through any other scholarship program and pledge to not accept or undertake another scholarship while under the Getfund scholarship.
Applicants must also pledge to be willing to work in Ghana for a period not less than two years after graduating. Also, during the non-school periods of holidays, students must also work in internship or do community service within Ghana. Once the applicants have satisfied the following requirements they can proceed to submit their application form to the of the Getfund scholarships.Getfund Master’s Scholarship
The scholarship targets academically endowed students from Ghana who are interested in pursuing a Master’s degree in a relevant field of study from any of the in the Ghana, accredited by the National Accreditation Board. Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study from any accredited university around the world. They must also have at least more than two years of working experience in their related field of study with an approved letter of recommendation from the employee or the Government.
The stipulates that candidates must be aged between 23 to 32 before the date of submission of the application. They must have also attained or on the verge of completing their undergraduate degree with a Baccalaureate from an accredited university in Ghana. They must also have a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 rating system or its equivalent.
The scholarship can be renewed yearly given that the students maintain high academic performances throughout the academic year. The scholarship covers tuition fees, supplementary fees, accommodation and one round trip light to and from Ghana. It also includes monthly living expenses encountered by the learners. Upon completion, learners are expected to stay in Ghana for close to five years working to build the economy of Ghana.
