- The 9-year-old Xana has been down with bone cancer for the past five months before she passed away on Thursday evening, August 29
- Football players and clubs have been sending their condolences to Enrique who is currently in sad mood
Former Barcelona and Spain manager Luis Enrique has taken to social media to announce the shocking and untimely death of his 9-year-old daughter Xana.
According to the message shared by the 49-year-old professional coach, Xana has been battling with bone cancer for the past five months before she died on Thursday evening, August 29.
It was even after Xana was diagnosed of the life threatening disease that made Luis Enrique to step down as the coach of Spain in June.
But Luis Enrique who celebrated the Copa del Rey title in 2016 with his daughter is now bereaved as he lost his precious one.
Barcelona have however offered their condolences to Enrique and his family, as well as rival LaLiga clubs and numerous players in the game.
“We thank you for all the love received during these months and we appreciate the discretion and understanding.
“Also, we thank the staff of the Sant Joan de Deu and Sant Pau hospitals for their dedication and treatment, to the medical nurses and all the volunteers. With a special mention to the team of palliative priests of Sant Joan de Deu.
“We will miss you very much but we will remember you every day of our lives in the hope that in the future we will meet again.
“You will be the star that guides our family. Rest Xanita. Martinez Cullell family,'' Luis Enrique explained in a statement.
