The Ghana Education Service (GES), has reacted to claims made by the Ghana Textile Workers Union that the education service has gone ahead to import fabrics meant for the new uniforms.

According to the union, the GES, went ahead to import the fabrics without their knowledge; knowing very well that the country has textile manufacturing companies which could equally do the job

The GES has however in a statement said the statement by the union claiming the importation of the fabric as madness should be treated as baseless and has no merit whatsoever.

"The GES wants to state that it has not imported, neither has it contracted any individual locally or internationally to bring the new uniform for the Junior High School," the statement noted.

In April 2019, the GES urged parents to access the new uniform which was sampled to the media, in the market just as was done for the old uniforms.

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that the Textiles Workers Union had opined that the alleged importation of the new uniforms introduced by the Ghana Education Service made no sense at all.

According to Daily Graphic reports, the fabrics meant for the new uniform, were already on the market although the GES has not officially made them available.

Speaking in an interview with the Daily Graphic, the General Secretary of the Textiles Workers Union, Abraham Koomson, said the decision of government on the issue trashes its message of creating jobs for the youth.
