Chelsea star tips Samartex to lift Ghana Premier League title

Berekum Chelsea defender, Yaw Darkwah, has voiced his belief that FC Samartex is poised to claim the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League title.

Despite a recent 1-0 loss to RTU, Samartex maintains their top spot in the league with an impressive 52 points from 29 matches.

Darkwah acknowledges the challenge of overtaking Samartex, highlighting their formidable home record and substantial points lead.

He suggests that while winning the title might be challenging for other teams, Samartex’s consistent performance makes them strong contenders.

“It will be difficult for us to win the league if you look at the points between us and the first team, Samartex.

The interval is huge and Samartex doesn’t lose its home matches, they’ve picked two or so defeats at home all season so it’s not easy to defeat them at home and they have a couple of games at home left so it’s not easy to displace them but it’s possible to be in the second or third position,” he told Ghanasportspage.com in an interview.

Although Darkwah refrains from declaring Samartex as outright champions, he acknowledges their dominance and the difficulty of defeating them, particularly at their home ground in Samreboi.

With Chelsea currently sitting 6th in the standings, Darkwah recognizes the uphill battle for his own team but remains optimistic about securing a strong finish in the season.

“I won’t say they’ve already won the league but it’s possible for them to clinch it.

It’s not easy to beat a team at their home in this league and there are certain teams it’s difficult to even pick a point at their backyard and Samartex is one of those teams.

When you look at their points accumulation, it’s very high and it’s not easy to beat them at Samreboi.

With the games left and them also having some home games, it’s not easy to overtake them but anything is possible, it’s a league ofcourse but I don’t see any team overtaking them at this point.”
