Ghanaian midfielder Abu Francis extends contract with Cercle Brugge

Belgian club Cercle Brugge has secured the services of Ghana international midfielder Abu Francis for another year, with the option for a further extension, affirming their faith in his abilities.

Francis, who joined Cercle Brugge in the summer of 2022 from Danish outfit FC Nordsjaelland, has been an integral part of the team since his arrival.

The 23-year-old, who honed his skills at Ghana’s renowned Right to Dream Academy before venturing abroad, swiftly established himself as a versatile midfielder for Cercle Brugge, featuring in 33 matches, contributing two goals, and providing three assists in his debut season.

Expressing his delight at the contract renewal, Francis expressed gratitude for the opportunities afforded to him by the club, emphasizing the importance of continuity in his football journey.

“I am thrilled to prolong my association with Cercle Brugge.

The club has been instrumental in my development, and I am eager to see what the future holds,” remarked the midfielder.

Despite facing a setback with an injury earlier in the season, sidelining him for six months, Francis staged a remarkable comeback in February, reclaiming his pivotal role in the team, particularly during the Championship Play-Offs.

Furthermore, Francis earned his maiden call-up to the Ghana national team, making appearances in friendly encounters against Nigeria and Uganda in March, marking a significant milestone in his career.

Expressing his determination to excel further, Francis highlighted the competitive environment within the team as a driving force behind his resurgence.

“I am immensely grateful for the extension, and I am determined to repay the faith shown in me by Cercle Brugge.

The relentless pursuit of excellence within the team motivates me to elevate my performance,” shared Francis, brimming with enthusiasm for the future.
