Ghana Premier League Match Report: Asante Kotoko secure emphatic win over Legon Cities in Kumasi

Asante Kotoko clinched their second victory in three games with a commanding 2-0 triumph over Legon Cities at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in match week 29 of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League.

The victory, however, was not devoid of controversy as the first goal was contentiously awarded through a penalty, followed by a scrappy finish for the second.

Despite the contentious start, Steven Mukwala gave Asante Kotoko the lead after 33 minutes with a spot-kick conversion that sparked debate over the legitimacy of the penalty decision.

Yussif Mohammed Nurudeen secured the win for the home side just five minutes into the second half with a gritty finish.

As a result, Asante Kotoko climbed two places in the table, now comfortably seated in ninth with 40 points, a significant leap from their eleventh position at the start of the day.

In contrast, the defeat saw Legon Cities plummet from tenth to eleventh, with 38 points, as the two sides exchanged positions.

Despite the contentious beginnings, the game concluded with a decisive 2-0 victory for Kotoko.
