Heart of Lions gaffer Bashir Hayford bemoans bad treatment meted on him by Bechem fans

Heart of Lions head coach Bashir Hayford has explained why he sat in the middle of the pitch during their Ghana Premier League match against Bechem United.

During their 1-1 draw at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park, Hayford staged a sit-down protest, causing a delay in the game.

Hayford disclosed that he took this action because fans had poured urine on him, which he found unacceptable, especially during a match he likened to a war.

He told Kessben FM, “They [fans] were pouring urine on me, they were spitting on me behind the bench.”

The fans also protested against a decision by the referee, claiming that Heart of Lions’ goal was offside.

Hayford felt compelled to take a stand, explaining, “It was because of the urine poured on me that’s why I went to the pitch with a chair.”

In the match, Heart of Lions took an early lead through Emmanuel Ofori Sakyi in the ninth minute, but Bechem United equalized just before halftime through Francis Acquah.

Despite the draw, Heart of Lions remain in the relegation zone, sitting with 29 points from 28 games, three points away from safety.
