Asamoah Gyan: Fatawu Issahaku was right to snub AFCON 2023 to play for Leicester City

It has certainly paid off.

Abdul Fatawu Issahaku decided to decline Chris Houghton’s invitation to the Black Stars for the 2023 AFCON.

His reason was to cement his place in Enzo Maresca’s side and he’s now a cog in their attack.

Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, 20, has contributed a combined 20 goals and assists in his first season for Leicester City in the English Championship.

On Monday night, the Foxes at the Deepdale brushed aside Preston North End 3-0 to lift the English Championship.

Former Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan thinks Fatawu Issahaku’s decision to snub the Black Stars has paid off.

“Although we needed him in the national team, for him not to come to the AFCON, I think is the best decision he made because he had to focus on his playing career and make sure he gets to the height and Ghanaians had the patience for him despite little criticism but I think it has paid off,” said Asamoah Gyan in an interview with Alexis Laura on YouTube.

Fatawu Issahaku is on loan at Leicester City from Sporting Lisbon in Portugal and the Foxes will make his move a permanent one.
