Official: Atletico Madrid and Laliga offer support to Nico Williams after Saturday’s alleged racial abuse

On social media, Atletico Madrid said the club were “against any act of racism or hatred”.

A statement from La Liga read: “There’s no place for racist or hateful behaviour in sport.

“La Liga vehemently condemns any racist acts and will continue working to eradicate this inexcusable behaviour from our sport.”

These were the words from Atletico Madrid and La Liga in support of Nico Williams, the young Athletic Bilbao forward who suffered abuse racially at the Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid from Atletico Madrid fans.

La Liga has been extremely lenient with Atletico Madrid as the capital club has developed a knack for abusing dark-tone players.

Actions speak louder than words and hence La Liga must take action against the racists.

Nico Williams was born in Pamplona to Ghanaian parents.

The young attacker is a Spanish international and will definitely be in Germany with Spain for the 2024 European Championship.

Atletico Madrid won 3-1 against Athletic Bilbao in the battle for the 4th slot in La Liga.
