Asante Kotoko set to miss key players against Medeama

Asante Kotoko geared up for a pivotal showdown against Medeama in a vital clash within the Ghana Premier League calendar.

Their recent win against Samartex injected a dose of much-needed morale, snapping a streak of dismal performances that saw them clinch victory in only one out of seven matches.

Despite this, their aim was clear: to extend their newfound winning streak.

However, Asante Kotoko would enter the Medeama match missing a considerable chunk of their squad.

Midfield dynamo Richmond Lamptey and dependable left-back John Tedeku found themselves on the sidelines due to injuries, while the availability of winger Isaac Oppong hung in uncertainty due to illness.

The absence extended to the goalkeeping department, with Ibrahim Danlad and Nurudeen Yussif Mohammed, along with Peter Amidu Acquah, undergoing evaluations by the medical team after failing to participate in squad training.

Adding to their woes, midfielder Michael Kyei Dwamena continued his journey towards full recovery, rendering him unavailable for the crucial fixture.

Versatile midfielder Sherif Mohammed was also ruled out as he recuperated from a successful surgery, further thinning Asante Kotoko’s options.

Despite the glaring absence of these influential figures, Asante Kotoko exuded confidence as they braced themselves for the challenge posed by Medeama.

The two sides had locked horns six times since April 2021, with Medeama emerging victorious on two occasions while Asante Kotoko claimed victory four times.
