Zamalek hit with transfer ban over unpaid wages to former player Khalid Boutaib

Zamalek, the Cairo giants, face yet another setback as they receive a transfer ban due to outstanding wages owed to former Moroccan striker Khalid Boutaib.

Boutaib, currently plying his trade with French Ligue 2 side Pau FC, joined Zamalek in January 2019 for €1.50 million but departed just a year later on a free transfer.

During his tenure with Zamalek, Boutaib contributed five goals in 24 appearances and was part of the squad that clinched the 2019 CAF Confederation Cup.

After leaving the club, Boutaib filed a complaint with FIFA regarding unpaid wages, which had been pending for four years.

Following arbitration, the Swiss court ruled in Boutaib’s favor, mandating Zamalek to pay €2.4 million, including fines for the delay.

This ruling has led to Zamalek’s registration being suspended, imposing a transfer ban on the club.

Zamalek has announced its intention to resolve the matter before the commencement of the summer transfer window in July or August.

Since departing Zamalek, Boutaib has continued his career in France, representing clubs such as Le Havre, Paris FC, and his current team, Pau FC.
