Otto Addo addresses discipline and performance issues in Black Stars squad ahead of 2026 World Cup qualifiers

Ghana’s head coach, Otto Addo, has candidly addressed disciplinary concerns within the team, prompted by a flurry of red and yellow cards during the recent international break.

Addo emphasized the necessity for players to channel their intensity into improved performance on the field, rather than accumulating cards.

The team witnessed three red cards, including defender Jerome Opoku in the loss to Nigeria, and further discipline issues in the draw against Uganda.

Speaking on the matter, Addo stressed the importance of playing intelligently while maintaining competitiveness, aiming to avoid unnecessary disciplinary actions.

Additionally, Addo expressed dissatisfaction with the team’s performance in the 2-2 draw against Uganda, particularly noting deficiencies in the attacking phase and finishing.

“The discipline on the pitch to play good, play hard, play hard but intelligent and not get silly yellow and red cards is something we have address and work on,” he said

Looking ahead to the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic scheduled for June, Addo highlighted the critical need to address these issues and ensure a full squad.
