Council of State to review petitions seeking Chief Justice’s removal

President John Dramani Mahama has referred three petitions seeking the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo to the Council of State for consultation, in line with Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution.
A statement from the Presidency’s Communications Directorate on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, confirmed that the petitions, submitted by various individuals, have been forwarded for review.
While details of the petitions remain undisclosed, the move initiates a constitutional process that could lead to further scrutiny of the Chief Justice’s tenure.
The Council of State is now tasked with advising the President on the next steps before any official action can be considered.
