Kwesi Pratt jumps to Mahama’s defence over the ‘boot-for-boot' comment

- Kwesi Pratt has claimed that there is nothing wrong with John Mahama's boot-for-boot’ comment.

- He added that it simply means people will defend themselves when attacked

- Mahama's ‘boot-for-boot’ comment attracted mixed reactions from a cross-section of Ghanaians

Popular Ghanaian journalist, Kwesi Pratt, has jumped to the defence of former president John Mahama over his ‘boot-for-boot’ comment.

In his opinion, the remark is nothing more than a word of caution to people who create trouble and expect praises.

According to Peacefmonline.com, Pratt explained that “now, there is also a lot of noise about what former president John Mahama said “boot for boot”. What does it mean? It means that if you beat me, I will beat you back. So if you don’t want to be booted back, don’t boot, that’s all.”

He went ahead to say that as human beings, there is the urge to respond to attacks, and for that reason, there will be peace if people co-exist in harmony.

“The man is not saying that I am going to boot you; he says, don’t boot me. If you boot me, I will boot you back, and you say no I will boot you, but when I boot you, don’t boot me back or... if you threaten that when I boot you, you will boot me back then you are a violent man. What nonsense is that?” he asked.

He further stated that the tendency to perceive people who respond to attack as violent is flawed.

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that Mahama vowed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will respond in equal measure if it is attacked.

He stated that the NDC has revolutionary roots and for that reason, it will not hesitate to show its true colours, if the New Patriotic Party (NPP) does not desist from attacking its members.

Mahama added that NDC’s decision to remain calm in the face of attacks from the NPP does not necessarily mean that it is powerless.

He went on to say that the situation remains so because the party respects the constitution and the rule of law.
