Twin midwife trainees Fuseina & Asana Kuusana deliver pregnant woman on a moving bus

A set of twins who happen to be trainee midwives with the Nandom Midwifery Training College in the Upper West Region have helped a pregnant mother on a bus to deliver without any complications.

The twins, Fuseina and Asana Kuusana, YEN.com.gh gathered, were on board a bus from Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region to Babile in the Upper West Region.

During the journey, an expectant mother who was a co-passenger went into labour and the twins had to spring into action to help the pregnant woman.

According to Northernlens.net, the twins, after pleading with the other passengers to give them privacy, improvised medical instruments including torn clothes and polythene bags in order to save the situation.

They succeeded in delivering the woman of a bouncy baby boy who is said to be doing well.

“We were with the woman in the bus and she was complaining of stomach pains intermittently whiles dropping down to urinate at a frequent rate. We had to ask whether she was pregnant as she wore some big gown. She confirmed positive and moments later it got out of hands forcing us to improvise many instruments to deliver her. We used polythene bags as gloves, used a torn cloth and a razor blade to detach the cord from the baby,” Asana is reported to have said.

She added: “We later took the mother and the baby to the Tuna clinic the following morning after the driver failed to repair the car which broke down along the road. The baby even saved us since the steering rod had removed from its slot and that is the easiest way to have caused an accident. Thank God the improvise many and saved all of us.”

The twins' delivery of the baby comes just a few months after YEN.com.gh broke a similar story of a young midwife who helped a woman in labour deliver her baby safely while on board a commercial bus.

The midwife, Sophia Safia Sulemana, was a passenger on a Bolgatanga bound bus and had to help deliver the baby at about 3:34am after the driver stopped the moving bus somewhere along the Buipe road.

Safia who became an internet sensation for what she did was later honoured by the Nurses and Midwifery Council.
